What Are the Symptoms of Cataracts?

What Does Cataract Surgery Involve?

Cataract surgery is designed to restore clearer vision by removing the clouded lens and replacing it with an intraocular lens implant (IOL). Our board-certified ophthalmologist, Dr. Leslie Garay, generally performs the procedure on an outpatient basis, with the entire operation usually lasting less than an hour. Patients will be given a topical anesthetic to alleviate any potential discomfort. Sedative options can also be discussed ahead of time with your provider, as needed.

Based on your specific vision goals, a number of different replacement lens types are available. In many cases, our premium lens options can help eliminate the need for glasses or contacts after cataract surgery, providing convenient and effective results for a variety of vision conditions. In general:

Monofocal lenses can provide correction for long-distance vision
Multifocal lenses can provide dynamic correction for near, intermediate, and long-distance vision
Toric lenses can correct for astigmatism

How Long Is the Recovery from Cataract Surgery?

Most patients can begin resuming normal activities a day or two after cataract surgery. Protective eyewear and prescription eye drops should be used as directed by your doctor to help with healing. Full vision recovery may take several days to weeks as the eyes adjust to the newly placed intraocular lenses and heal from surgery. You should see gradual vision improvements during this time.
